Fertility Awareness Week 2013 is an
awareness campaign endorsed by the Asia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction
(ASPIRE) & Philippine Society of Reproductive Endocrinology &
Infertility (PSREI) in collaboration with Merck Serono to improve knowledge
surrounding fertility and recognize the issue of infertility.
o Why drive this campaign?
§ Infertility affects 1 in 10 couples and prevents the opportunity
to build families across the globe.
§ Asia has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world.
§ Despite the treatment options available, there is currently a lack
of knowledge surrounding risk factors and the reasons behind fertility
problems.
o Merck Serono and the medical community seek to develop the
opportunities for women to conceive by providing information on infertility and
local treatment options through local awareness programs while encouraging them
to talk about their fertility problems with their partners and GP or fertility
specialist.
o The week-long event will feature a web congress via the Hope for Starting Families campaign online
platform www.fertilityphilippines.com, which will highlight the nature of infertility, barriers to
understanding the condition, and treatment options available in the Philippines
for Filipino couples seeking to conceive.
